Ganges is one of the holi river in India and its source, a sacred pilgrimage for devout Hindus. The trek fol-lows the Ganges to its source at Gaumukh, the snout of river Ganges. Legend is that Goddess Ganga de-scended here from heaven after prolonged penance of King Bhagirath.

Route: Uttarkashi – Gangotri - Chirbasa – Bhojbasa - Gaumukh (3892M) – Chirbasa – Gangotri – Uttarkashi

Tour Itinerary

Day 01: Uttarkashi – Gangotri (Drive: 95 KMS/ 3 HRS)

In the morning after breakfast drive (96km) to Gangotri (3048 m). Gangotri is the place where the Goddess Ganga descended on earth from heaven. It’s also the road head for the trekking in Gangotri valley. Visit the temple of Goddess Ganga. Overnight stay in tourist lodge.

Day 02: Gangotri – Bhojbasa

After Breakfast Trek 14 km to Bhojbasa (3658 m) following the river Bhagirathi on right bank. The trek is gradual ascent for most of the part. From Bhojbasa you can have majestic view of Bhagirathi group of peaks. On arrival set-up camp for overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Day 03: Bhojbasa - Gaumukh – Tapovan -Bhojbasa

After Breakfast Trek to Tapovan (4400 m) via Gaumukh - the source of river Ganges. From Gaumukh climb over to Gangotri glacier and cross it from righ to left bank before climbing over to lateral morain to reach Tapovan. Tapovan is large high-altitude meadow and base camp for climbing Mt Shivling and Mt Meru and travel back to Bhojbasa. Overnight stay in tent camp.

Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Day 04: Bhojbasa - Gangotri - Uttarkashi

After breakfast trek back 14 km to Gangotri. On arrival drive (95 km) to Uttarkashi. You can drive your onwards destination.
